Sample ImageIn the early 16th century the root began to be cultivated in the monestary garden at Pontefract for herbal use, It thrived there because of the high concentration of clay in the soil. As a result the Yorkshire town soon became the centre of Britains liquorice industry.

  • There is historical evidence that it has existed for over 3000 years. It has been found in mummys tombs and even recorded in Buddhist original manuscripts dating from 360AD.
